Calgary Jazz Composers Collective Vol. 6

The Calgary Jazz Composers Collective is a co-operative ensemble that creates and presents new and original jazz music and arrangements. The personnel of this group changes, morphs and evolves from concert to concert, featuring various forward thinking members of the Calgary jazz community. The constant theme of this group is one of creation and the presentation of new music, providing a showcase for local jazz artists to present their original works in a concert venue. Ongoing editions of this collective will present four concerts over the course of the Fall of 2022 and will feature various artists and instrumentation. Musically, "the future is now!" and the music and artists presented in this series represent the current state of contemporary jazz composition in Calgary. Bringing together a diverse variety of sounds and musical influences, the Calgary Jazz Composers Collective seeks to explore new sonic territory and to become a forum for original music by Calgary jazz composers and performers.

Volume 6 features:

Aimee-Jo Benoit - Vocals
Fraser Calhoun - Saxophone
Chris Tauchner - Piano
Stefano Valdo - Bass
Jon McCaslin - Drums

Facebook Live Listening Party with Aimee-Jo and Trio Velocity

It's been just over a year since the inception of BORJONER at a cafe in downtown Calgary, where I was brainstorming names for the project that would become Borjoner. I was trying to encapsulate what we experience as Jazz musicians and what the band and I experience when playing together. After a little bit of research, it was aptly named BORJONER (pronounced BORE-JOH-NEH) and it's Old French for the term burgeoning, or to put out buds.
The sprouts of inspiration we seek and experience as artists are like those buds pushing through the ground, and while we wish we could show you in person what happens when we play together, my hope is that we can be together in spirit on Friday, June 26.

Join us as we talk about the album and how it came to be.

AIMEE-JO BENOIT/TRIO VELOCITY LIVESTREAM RECORDING SESSION

BOJORNER: AIMEE JO BENOIT WITH TRIO VELOCITY will be an adventurous recording of loosely arranged and improvised versions of modern pop and folk-rock tunes in a jazz setting, taking place at the beautiful BUCKINGJAM PALACE in Calgary AB.
The project is titled BOJORNER, which in Old French means to burgeon, sprout or blossom. The concept of budding or sprouting is a reflection of the inspiration which comes quickly as a bud or sprout to an artist. (To be inspired is an act of improvisation by its own merit.)
As the audience has such a great effect on how our music cascades into being, the recording session will be livestreamed using YOUTUBE LIVE. We invite you to join us October 6th, 2019! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIRNGf_syH8

The scheduled time is approximate due to set up and session takes.

King Eddy Happy Hour with The Polyjesters

I am very pleased to be sharing the stage with The Polyjesters for Stampede Happy Hour. Come on down, take a load off and get your fix of cowboy jazz!

If you didn't get enough of The Polyjesters at the Grandstand Show, we've got just the fix for you. Catch the genre-confused stage-shakers every day at #KingEddyYYC!

General admission.
No cover. Pass the hat, Nashville style!
Music starts at 4 pm.
We asked guests to join us and challenged them with the following musical conditions:
- Each guest sings a minimum of 8 songs. 4 in the first set, and 4 in the second.
- These songs don't need to be country, but should be easy to dip flour, then egg, then bread crumbs, and country fried in a cast iron pan with butter.
- Half of the songs must be Canadian. 2 of those songs should be original compositions if possible.
- The guests who identify as male must sing, "Man, I Feel Like A Woman" by Shania Twain.
- The guests who identify as female must sing, "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy" by Big & Rich.
About Stampede at the King Eddy:
In honour of #YYC's favourite 10 days of the year, #KingEddyYYC is bringing you a multi-genre roundup of sizzlin' hot tunes for Stampede 2019. Catch this country-and-more lineup all day and all night on a historic stage just 600 metres from Stampede Park.
